2016: Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya Bachelor Project with Rita Pinto de Freitas

In Academic, Sunday, July 31, 2016

Bachelor, “Sewing the City_The Citadel and the Sea” is the first collaborative bachelor project to be realized between Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Barcelona and German University in Cairo The studio concentrates on a design problem addressing the urban dimension in architecture.

Projects deal with high complexity situations in contemporary urban settings regarding the scale and the nature of the intervention.

Urban proposals with the potential of reconfiguring the qualities of the city beyond the limits of the intervention develop simultaneously the architectural, landscape and infrastructural dimension.

Opening the Citadel to the sea:

The central and specific location of the Ciutadella Park, grants it the role of core as well as hinge that connects the different districts of Example, Ciutat Vella / Born, the Vil.la Olímpica and Barceloneta.

This not only introduces the possibility of connecting both sides of the train and traffic infrastructure on a nuclear node, but also allows partially redefining the the urban configuration of the city and the waterfront on a wider scale, with new qualities and levels of connection. View here

Learning outcomes:

· Exercising tools to design large scale architecture with a high level of complexity

· Learning urban strategies.

· Conceiving and dealing simultaneously with different architectural scales, from the programmatic and design dimension to the ability of architecture to reconfigure the cityscape.

· Including mobility and the incidence of infrastructures in the configuration of the space.

· Integrating landscape and cultural dimensions as essential design components.

· Integrating natural and cultural resources.
