European DesignBuild Knowledge Network

The European DesignBuild Knowledge Network (EDBKN) promotes the implementation, distribution, and sustainability of the DesignBuild methodology. As a teaching and research model, DesignBuild- Studios (DBS) enable students to take responsibility for developing balanced future living environments through architectural projects from design to realization. In recent years they have become a new paradigm in architectural education in Europe and all around the world. However, despite the fact that DesignBuild-Studios show an exemplary way to combine the synergistic potentials of teaching, research,

practice, and development cooperation, they remain a young and changing field. EDBKN will stimulate the sustainable, practice-related, international and interdisciplinary knowledgetransfer and research and foster cooperation related to DesignBuild activities. The research project is conducted by TU Berlin in cooperation with Vienna University of Technology, Associazione Archintorno, Dalhousie University, and the German University in Cairo. It is funded by the European Union (2013 – 2016) as part of Erasmus Mundus, a cooperation and mobility program in the field of higher education that aims to enhance the quality of European higher education and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with developing countries
